Modern, Multilingual E-Commerce Design

Nyork is a consumer electronics and accessories brand, offering a wide range of storage devices, mobile accessories, and multimedia products. With growing competition in the e-commerce space, Nyork needed a modern, scalable, and multilingual online platform that could deliver a seamless shopping experience to both English- and Arabic-speaking audiences.Our team was tasked with designing and developing this platform from the ground up, ensuring intuitive navigation, fast performance, and an engaging UI that aligned with Nyorks brand identity.

Nyork’s offline presence was strong, but its digital presence was limited. Competitors had already captured significant online market share, making it critical to build a high-quality e-commerce solution.

Objectives

Develop a user-friendly online store optimized for conversions with a responsive, mobile-first design that caters to users on the go. Ensure multi-language support in English and Arabic to reach a wider audience, and build a scalable backend architecture capable of handling future product growth. Additionally, streamline the checkout flow to provide a seamless shopping experience and minimize cart abandonment.

Insights

Before starting the design process, our team conducted market research and usability studies

Competitor Analysis:
Many electronics e-commerce sites had cluttered interfaces and lengthy checkout processes, creating friction for buyers.

Target Audience:
Nyork’s customers included young professionals, students, and tech-savvy individuals — primarily mobile-first users.

Pain Points Identified:
Users struggled with overloaded menus on competitor websites.
Checkout flows often required unnecessary steps, increasing drop-offs.
Product detail pages lacked technical specifications and multiple images.
This research shaped our design principles: simplicity, clarity, and efficiency.

Design Process

The project began with low-fidelity wireframes, outlining the homepage layout, category grid, product detail pages, and checkout flow to establish a clear user journey. In the UI design phase, we focused on bold typography, a balanced dark and light contrast, and product-centric visuals that highlight the brand’s core offerings. Prominent CTAs like “Explore More” and “View All Products” were strategically placed to guide user interaction, while maintaining visual consistency across all product images. The responsive design ensured a seamless experience across devices, featuring a mobile-friendly hamburger menu, scalable images for smaller screens, and an optimized cart and checkout flow designed for convenient one-handed use.

Style Guide

The brand identity is built on a modern, bold color palette and clean typography to ensure consistency and readability across all digital touchpoints. The deep green tones reflect trust and stability, while the typefaces SF Pro Display and Rubik bring clarity, balance, and a contemporary feel.

Dev Flow

The website was hosted on DigitalOcean with an integrated e-commerce backend, delivering key features such as bilingual support (English & Arabic), AED pricing, category-based browsing, an optimized cart and checkout, and fully responsive layouts, while performance was enhanced through lazy loading, CDN with caching, and mobile-first optimizations.

The platform was built with Next.js for fast, SEO-friendly rendering, styled using TailwindCSS for responsive design, and powered by Node.js with Express.js on the backend. MongoDB efficiently managed the product catalog and orders, while Strapi enabled easy content and product management for the Nyork team. Hosting was provided on DigitalOcean for high availability and optimized deployments, with GitHub supporting version control, collaboration, and CI/CD workflows.

Results

The new Nyork website delivered measurable impact within weeks of launch:
42% increase in product page visits (category-first design worked).
28% reduction in cart abandonment rates (streamlined checkout).
Higher engagement on bilingual toggle, proving reach to a broader audience.
Improved brand credibility and trust through a modern, professional website.

Challenges

One of the main challenges was managing multilingual content, which we resolved by integrating Strapi CMS with localized fields for English and Arabic. Performance issues caused by large product images were addressed through Next.js image optimization and CDN hosting, ensuring faster load times. Additionally, we simplified product discovery by creating clear category structures and advanced filters, making the browsing experience seamless for users.

The Nyork e-commerce website successfully transformed the brand’s online presence. The platform is intuitive, responsive, multilingual, and scalable, addressing Nyork’s business needs while enhancing customer experience. This project strengthened our expertise in UI/UX design, scalable development, and e-commerce strategy. The learnings from usability testing will continue to guide future design iterations.
